Carnegie International 2026–27 balances world-class and community
The 59th Carnegie International, titled 'If the word we', aims to connect world-class artists with Pittsburgh's surrounding community. The 2026–27 edition tests possibilities of inclusive artistic connection within the recurring exhibition framework.
The 59th Carnegie International, scheduled for 2026–27, will operate under the thematic umbrella 'If the word we', exploring interconnection and inclusive curatorial practice. The recurring Pittsburgh-based biennial aims to balance presentation of internationally recognised artists alongside celebration of the local and regional artistic community. The curatorial framework deliberately tests expanded definitions of participation, seeking to dissolve conventional hierarchies between established and emerging practitioners. Programming will span multiple venues and community spaces throughout Pittsburgh, extending the exhibition's reach beyond traditional museum boundaries.
